Barack and Michelle Obama are putting long-standing divorce rumors to rest—with humor and clarity.

The former President made a surprise appearance on the latest episode of Michelle Obama: The Light Podcast, joining Michelle and her brother, Craig Robinson. The episode featured playful banter among the trio, with Robinson joking about their dynamic. “Wait, you guys like each other?” he asked, prompting Barack to respond to previous divorce rumors, “She took me back! It was touch and go for a while.”

Michelle, acknowledged how speculation arises whenever she and Barack aren’t seen together at public events. “When we aren’t [together], folks think we’re divorced,” she said. The former First Lady took the moment to directly address the rumors, stating, “There hasn’t been one moment in our marriage where I thought about quitting my man.”

Their lighthearted exchange comes after online speculation intensified over the past year, fueled in part by Michelle attending events alone, such as President Jimmy Carter’s memorial and President Trump’s inauguration. The couple’s decision to maintain separate appearances, however, is rooted in their preference for privacy, not marital strain.

Barack and Michelle, who celebrated their 32nd wedding anniversary in 2024, have frequently spoken about the ups and downs of marriage. Michelle has previously opened up about how even the strongest relationships require work, honesty, and commitment. On the podcast, both reaffirmed that their partnership remains strong.
