Bernice King, the daughter of the late Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., slams Donald Trump for his comparison to her father.
While giving a speech during a press conference, Trump compared the size of his crowd to that of the crowd during Dr. King’s “I Have A Dream” speech. “Nobody’s spoken to crowds bigger than me,” he said. “If you look at Martin Luther King, when he did his speech, his great speech. And you look at ours, same real estate, same everything, same number of people. If not, we had more.”
He added, “Look at it, and you look at the picture of his crowd, my crowd, we actually had more people.” Trump went on to say that he “likes” Dr. King.
However, according to reports, Dr. King’s infamous speech garnered nearly 250,000 people while Trump’s “Stop the Steal” speech only had 53,000 people in attendance. Trump’s remarks didn’t sit well with Bernice King and she addressed it on social media.
“Absolutely not true,” she wrote. “I really wish that people would stop using my father to support fallacy.”
The NAACP also chimed in and responded to Trump’s claims. They posted side-by-side photos of the crowd in 1963 when the “I Have A Dream” speech was given and the crowd at Trump’s speech. “Here’s what is more important: MLK’s speech was about democracy. Trump’s was about tearing it down.”
