The verdict is in and R.Kelly has been found guilty of all charges in the racketeering and sex trafficking case.
In this federal case, Kelly was convicted of nine counts, including racketeering, kidnapping, bribery, sex trafficking, sexual exploitation of a child, as well eight additional counts of violation of the sex trafficking law, the Mann Act.
According to reports, the jury made up of seven men and five women began deliberations on Friday afternoon. Kelly was originally acquitted of child pornography charges in the Illinois state trial.
Kelly’s trial began in Brooklyn on August 18th, where fifty witnesses between the prosecution and the defense testified on the stand during the five-week trial. Some of those witnesses included victims of the r&b singer who went under the name “Jane Does”.
The late singer Aaliyah, who died in 2001, was named Jane Doe 1. Witnesses testified that they were present for her marriage to Kelly on August 31st, 1994. She was 15 and he was 27 although her marriage license and certificate said that she was 18.
Other witnesses, male and female, recalled the times when they met the singer and also the abuse they encountered by Kelly when they were underage.
One witness stated that she was forced into having an abortion, while another stated that she was allegedly choked by the singer until she lost consciousness.
