Candiace Dillard Bassett, known from Real Housewives of Potomac, is expecting her first child with husband Chris Bassett. The 37-year-old singer shared the news with Entertainment Tonight, revealing she’s about 13 weeks along.
“I am about 13 weeks … so just about into the second trimester. It’s been weird, but also really wonderful, I think, to keep it kind of to ourselves to this point,” Candiace said.
The couple’s journey to pregnancy began with one of their frozen embryos from 2021. She underwent in vitro fertilization (IVF) in January, a decision they made together after much contemplation.
“I always wondered, like, how would I know when I was ready? And I always felt like a part of my anxiety was that I wasn’t sure that I would know, and when I knew, it was undeniable,” she explained.
After implantation surgery in January, Candiace waited anxiously for confirmation, which came two weeks later.
“Our doctor called us at 8 a.m. and she tells us that we’re pregnant,” Candiace revealed. “We waited and waited and waited all this time, so to finally hear that, after those two weeks, the process has worked after a year of doing the shots… to finally have it all pay off was amazing.”
The couple decided not to know the gender of their baby in advance. They froze one male and one female embryo, choosing the highest-graded one for implantation.
“It’s so cool that you literally have no idea what you’re getting,” Candiace said. “It’s a space I’ve kind of been peering into from the outside, most of my friends and my cousins have kids. I’ve helped raise and change diapers and babysit all of my cousins’ kids, so it’s just gonna be fun to be a part of that community and, you know, to learn and grow as a member now.”
A New Chapter for Candiace Dillard Basset
This news comes after Candiace announced her departure from Real Housewives of Potomac. She expressed gratitude for her time on the show, hinting that it might not be a permanent goodbye.
“As I embark on a new chapter after six remarkable years with The Real Housewives of Potomac, I am filled with gratitude for the enriching friendships, personal growth, and moments of introspection that have defined this journey,” Candiace shared. “With a whirlwind of new opportunities and responsibilities on my plate, I have decided to take a break from RHOP. This is not a farewell, but a ‘see you later.’”
Candiace and Chris, who met while working at a restaurant in Washington D.C., got married in 2018. Chris has three children from a previous marriage, making Candiace a “bonus mom” before this new addition to their family.
“It’s just gonna be fun to be a part of that community and, you know, to learn and grow as a member now,” Candiace said about joining the “mom community.”
