Ciara Celebrates 20 Years Of ‘Goodies’ Album With Jazzy Pha

Ciara’s debut Goodies album turns 20 years old this year.

To celebrate the milestone, producer Jazze Pha gave the 38 year-old singer her flowers during Missy Elliott’s Out of This World Tour stop at State Farm Arena in Atlanta.

Jazze Pha presented Ciara with several multi-platinum certification plaques during her opening set.

“I will forever cherish moments like this! 20th Anniversary of Goodies Album celebration right here, on stage, in my hometown of Atlanta! Grateful for each person that’s helped me along the way,” she wrote alongside a video shared to social media on July 28. “ATL is the city that made me!”

In the clip, Jazze Pha, who executive produced the 2004 album for his own Sho’nuff Records in collaboration with LaFace Records, came out on stage with several other people after Ciara performed her hit “Level Up” to present her with the plaques.

“We talking about 2004, when this thing started off, CiCi,” said Pha, before telling the musician Goodies has sold over 4 million units, the title track with Petey Pablo has sold 3 million units, “Oh” with Ludacris has sold 2 million units and “1, 2 Step” with Elliott has sold 5 million units.

Arriving on September 28, 2004, the milestone year places into context a career and journey that has gifted the masses globally. With the album, Ciara was hailed as the “Princess or First Lady of Crunk&B.” Goodies, consists of bouncy dance music mixed with crunk, pop and R&B. While heavily inspired by it’s male counterpart crunk song “Yeah”, Goodies also features ballads that utilize Ciara’s breathy vocals.

The title track, “Goodies” featuring Petey Pablo was released on May 10, 2004. It became a commercial success, bolstering female empowerment with lyrical content that rejecting advances.

“If you’re looking for the goodies, Keep on looking, ’cause they stay in the jar,” Ciara sings on the platinum-certified record.
