Comedian Amber Ruffin has decided to come out as queer on the last day of Pride Month.
The former late-night talk show host went on social media to reveal that she is a part of the LGBTQIA+ community. “In what will come as a shock to exactly zero people, I’m using the last day of PRIDE to come out!” she wrote in an Instagram post caption under a photo of herself smiling in a tank top with the word “Queer.”
She continued, “Be proud of who you are, little babies! I know I am!” Ruffin wrote. “And I can’t wait to be discriminated against for a new reason!!” After her announcement, Ruffin was embraced with love and support from friends and fans.
Niecy Nash’s wife, Jessica Betts, wrote, “We love you, Amber.” Actress Cynthia Ervio also wrote, “ Welcome baby love!! Bathrooms are to the left, refreshments to the right, grab a chair. The DJ takes requests.”
The 45-year-old comedian, was once married to Dutch painter, Jan Schiltmeijer from 2010 to 2023. They met in New York while Ruffin was performing with a theater caled Boom Chicago. She has since worked as a writer on NBC Late Night with Seth Meyers for 10 years, making her the first Black woman to do so. She also hosted her own show called, The Amber Ruffin Show, from 2021 to 2022.
