Amidst his romance with Jennifer Hudson, Common made a headline-grabbing confession in a recent interview. The rapper, known for his thoughtful lyrics and introspective interviews, shared his feelings about his girlfriend, the multi-talented Jennifer Hudson.
Common and Jennifer Hudson’s Connection
When asked about his native Chicago energy influencing his new album, The Auditorium, Vol. 1, Common’s response hinted at deeper sentiments.
“With all due respect to all the women I’ve dated… it’s all love, but this is a really healthy and beautiful relationship,” Common said, referring to Hudson. Both stars hail from Chicago, a shared hometown that strengthens their bond. Common fondly recalled Hudson buying ice cream for the cast and crew on their movie set, emphasizing her kind nature.
“If I’m going to get married, it’s to her,” he declared. “That’s simple as that.”
Growth and Love
Common’s reflections on marriage aren’t new. In a Today Show interview, Hoda Kotb asked if he saw himself as the marrying type. “I feel like I have grown and the work that I’ve done on myself has allowed me to see that I am a marrying type,” he shared. He expressed his belief in divine timing and discernment, trusting that he would recognize the right moment for such a commitment.
On his new album, The Auditorium, Vol. 1, Common collaborated with Hudson on the song “A GOD (There Is).” He praised her performance, revealing her unique connection to Aretha Franklin inspired her participation. “I love that we were able to utilize her gifts in a new space,” he said.
The couple’s private relationship first became public when Common appeared on The Jennifer Hudson Show with a bouquet of flowers. “I’m in a relationship… with one of the most beautiful people I ever met in life,” he said, without mentioning her name.
“This relationship is a happy place for me,” Common added. “Seeing her happy actually makes me really happy. So, I’m very grateful. I thank God each and every day, and I’m just letting God guide this relationship.”
Jennifer Hudson, sharing her happiness, told PEOPLE in June, “Everything is wonderful… That’s all you need to know.” Their mutual respect and love suggest a bright future, with Common even hinting at marriage.
