Senator Cory Booker has made history!

He has officially broken the record for the longest speech given on the Senate floor. According to reports, Booker delivered a passionate speech for 25 hours in protest of the Trump Administration’s policies.

In a few video clips, you can see Booker wiping away tears as he is applauded for his efforts by other Senate Democrats. He was also embraced by some of them once the speech was over. The New Jersey Senator Democrat began his speech on Monday at 7 pm and vowed to speak “for as long as I am physically able.”

“I’ve been hearing from people all over my state and indeed all over the nation calling upon folks in Congress to do more, to do things that recognize the urgency, the crisis of the moment,” he said in a video before the speech took place. “And so we all have a responsibility, I believe, to do something different, to cause- as late Rep. John Lewis said, ‘good trouble,’ and that includes me.”

Sen. Booker finished his speech on Tuesday night, minutes after 8 pm, concluding with a tribute to Lewis, “let’s get in good trouble.” His speech beat out the previous speech set in 1957 by segregationist Strom Thurmond, who filibustered for 24 hours and 18 minutes going against the Civil Rights Act.

Senator Cory Booker’s speech received 350 million likes on TikTok live and more that 115,000 people watched it live on YouTube.
