Craig Robinson is hanging up his comedic mic for good.

The comedian went on Instagram to announce that he will be retiring from comedy to reportedly focus on his small business. “Just want you to hear it from me. I am quitting comedy, but not for nothing,” he said in the video. “It’s been an amazing run, and y’all been amazing and wonderful. But I’m following something bigger. So, you know, thank you so much. I love you, and stay tuned.”

Robinson didn’t disclose his reason for quitting comedy, but it’s been assumed that it is to focus on his business because of a previous post where he asked for advice about starting a small business. “Turns out having a dream and building a business with your friends are two VERY different things,” he said. “I can’t go into detail just yet, but for real though, any help would be huge. Big shoutout to all my small business owners. Hey, you guys got any advice for me while I’m trying to get my business afloat?”

Craig Robinson got his start in comedy while attending Illinois State University. He later went on to win comedy competitions in New York and Los Angeles before landing performance gigs on Jimmy Kimmel Live and other late-night TV shows.

Throughout his career, Robinson had various roles in shows and movies such as Hot Tub Time Machine, Pineapple Express, Knocked Up, The Office, and more. During a 2023 interview, he explained how he got into comedy. “At a very early age, there was something magical about that attention of entertaining, so I was always silly in school and stuff,” he said. “I think when I got to college is when I got serious about comedy and trying to figure out how people stand on stage and hypnotize somebody.”

Before he is fully retired, Robinson has a few live shows lined up in comedy clubs across the country through November.
