Denzel Washington has revealed that the Equalizer 3 will be the last one.
In the film, Washington plays the role of Robert McCall, a retired U.S. Marine and former officer who fights justice in his own way. In a recent interview, Washington said, “It’s unfinished business.” He continued, “You know, the doormen in my building in New York, they love this guy. I talk to them about other films and they’re like, ‘Oh yeah, Fences, yeah, good movie. But when is the next Equalizer?’ I’m like, ‘Why do you love him? He says ‘Cause he can get the people we can’t get, you know? He’s the equalizer. He goes and gets revenge on those who need more than a good talking to.’ So, I’m just the guy for the job.”
For the third installment of this film, the 68-year-old’s character has issues forgiving himself for things he’s done in the past, and along with his struggles, he finds out that his friends are under the guidance of a local crime boss and fights to protect his friends.
Dakota Fanning, Remo Girone, Gaia Scodellaro, and Sonia Ben Ammar will be starring alongside Washington in the film.
Washington reiterated this will be his last Equalizer film. “This is the end for me. It may not be the end, they may do another one, but it’s the end for me.” He added that a big check would sway him to do another film. “Never say never, but you never know…”
Antoine Fuqua will be the director of this film. The film will premiere in theaters on September 1st.
