Fantasia is the latest artist to call out fans for being on their phones during her concert.
During her recent show, the “Truth Is” singer had urged fans to put their phones away while she sang. “So I wanna tell you now, we’re living in a world where y’all can’t have fun because you’ve been too busy trying to film stuff. So wack now,” she said.
She continued, “And we as performers, we be up here working and y’all [motions holding up a phone]… You know the money that you pay in here tonight you could’ve done something else with it. So if you paid the money, you might as well get your money’s worth.”
Fantasia’s rant sparked some debate on social media from her fans. Some believe that artists shouldn’t care that they are being recorded by the fans, while others ask how often they go back to watch the footage that they record.
Her rant comes after Busta Rhymes slammed the crowd for using their phones during this performance at the 30th Essence Festival of Culture. “Ayo, f*** them camera phones, too,” he said. “Let’s get back to interacting like humans. Put them weird-ass devices down. I ain’t from that era. Them s***s don’t control the soul. F*** your phone.”
