Hip-hop icon Flavor Flav alleges he was unexpectedly removed from the Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony by NBC security. The Public Enemy star, known for his joyful personality and charitable efforts, took to social media to share his disappointment over the incident.
Flavor Flav Escorted Out of Backstreet Boys Dressing Room
“I feel weird,” Flav wrote in a now-deleted post on X. “I was invited to the Rockefeller Tree Lighting tonite and I was escorted to see my boys… THE BACKSTREET BOYS… and we were backstage in their dressing room… security came up to me and said: @nbc does not want me in this area and I need to leave.”
Flav described the experience as confusing and hurtful, especially as some NBC employees appeared to welcome his presence. “At the same time… their social media woman came up and asked to capture social content,” he continued. “What did I ever do to NBC or anyone?? all I ever do is try to spread joy and love.”
Neither NBC nor the Backstreet Boys have commented publicly on the incident. However, Flav clarified that the Backstreet Boys supported him during the encounter. “They spoke up for me,,, they sure did,” he reassured a fan who expressed disappointment at the situation.
The 65-year-old rapper later shared a video of himself enjoying the festivities in the crowd, writing, “Christmas in the city… ain’t nothing like the Rockefeller tree lighting.” Despite his positive outlook, Flav admitted the experience left him shaken. “I deleted the tweet… but my spirit is broken,” he wrote in a follow-up post.
The incident contrasts with Flav’s notable goodwill efforts this year. At the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, he sponsored the U.S. Women’s Water Polo team and provided financial support to athletes in need. He also signed a five-year sponsorship deal to serve as the team’s official hype man.
