Flavor Flav, the legendary rapper and personality, revealed that attending the Paris Summer Olympics was the crowning moment of his 2024. Speaking at the iHeartRadio Jingle Ball in Inglewood, California, Flav shared how the experience left a lasting impression on him.
A Memorable Year in Paris for Flavor Flav
“Watching my water polo team do their thing. Watching Jordan Chiles and Simone Biles win their medals,” he said to PEOPLE. “Being at the rugby game and seeing the girls’ rugby team win their bronze medals. Just being there in that moment was the greatest thing ever.”
Flav’s connection to the Olympics went beyond just being a spectator. He sponsored Team USA’s women’s water polo team, a gesture that he said came from wanting to provide opportunities for female athletes. “There’s a lot of women out there who just want a chance,” Flav noted earlier this year. “I wanted to help give them that chance.”
The bond between Flav and the water polo team was evident as he described their camaraderie. He proudly showcased a Paris Olympic-themed clock, gifted to him by team members Ashleigh Johnson and Maggie Steffens. “They gifted me this wonderful clock right here,” Flav said. “I’m still in shock. They mean the world to me, you know what I’m saying?”
Reflecting on his relationship with the team, he added, “It’s like a family reunion every time I see them. I’m happy to see my family.”
Flav’s sponsorship went beyond financial support, including perks like a Virgin Voyage cruise and a $1,000 bonus for each team member. Steffens, the team’s captain, expressed her gratitude during a CBS Morning appearance, calling the gesture “amazing” and beaming with appreciation.
As Flav recounted his experiences at the Olympics, he couldn’t hide his admiration for the athletes. “These women are out there bustin’ their butt to make the United States look good,” he said passionately.
Looking ahead to the holidays, Flav shared his plans for a festive season filled with family, gifts, and plenty of good food. For him, though, 2024 will always be about the memories made in Paris.
