The classic anthem “Before I Let Go” by Frankie Beverly and Maze has officially achieved platinum status from the RIAA. This monumental achievement comes over four decades after its initial release and three months following Frankie Beverly’s passing.

A Timeless Cultural Staple by Frankie Beverly and Maze

First released in 1981, “Before I Let Go” was the second single from the band’s live album Live in New Orleans. Though the album was live, the song itself was a studio recording. Written and produced by Beverly, the track peaked at No. 13 on the Billboard R&B chart. Over the years, it evolved into a cultural mainstay, often played at family gatherings, weddings, and celebrations.

Beverly’s talent as a songwriter and performer helped the track transcend generations. In 2018, pop icon Beyoncé introduced the song to a new audience by reimagining it during her iconic Coachella performance. Her rendition further cemented the song’s legacy and relevance.

Frankie Beverly passed away on September 10, 2023, at the age of 77. In a heartfelt statement, his family shared their grief and their pride in his legacy. “He lived his life with pure soul,” the statement read. “For us, no one did it better. He lived for his music, family, and friends.”

In the weeks following his death, fans revisited Beverly’s music, leading to renewed chart success. “Before I Let Go” debuted at No. 2 on Billboard’s R&B Digital Song Sales chart. Other beloved tracks like “Joy and Pain” and “Golden Time of Day” also climbed into the top 10.

A Legacy of Joy and Connection

The platinum certification of “Before I Let Go” is a testament to the enduring impact of Beverly’s music. Fans and fellow artists continue to celebrate his contributions to R&B and the joy he brought to countless lives.

“His music is eternal,” one fan wrote on social media. “Frankie Beverly gave us the soundtrack to our best memories.” Indeed, as the music world mourns his loss, the platinum milestone reminds us that his spirit lives on through his timeless songs.
