Robbers smashed their way into the Los Angeles home of actress Gina Torres Friday evening, making off with more than $200,000 in jewelry and cash while the Suits and 9-1-1: Lone Star star was away, authorities said.

The burglary happened just after 7 p.m. on Jan. 30 in the Sherman Oaks section of Los Angeles, the Los Angeles Police Department confirmed. Officers were called to a residence on the 14000 block of Greenleaf Street after a neighbor reported a break-in.

“We received a call at approximately 7:10 p.m. regarding an active burglary,” an LAPD spokesperson said in a statement. “Officers arrived and observed that the home had been broken into. Suspects fled in a vehicle prior to our arrival.”

Neighbors told police they saw two men carrying bags from the property to a waiting car before driving away, according to local reports. Investigators believe the suspects entered by shattering a ground-floor window.

Authorities say the thieves stole about $25,000 in cash and over $200,000 worth of jewelry. No arrests have been made, and detectives continue to interview witnesses and review evidence. “It’s an active investigation,” the LAPD spokesperson added.

Celebrity Safety in Spotlight

Torres, 56, was not at home when the thieves struck. A friend of the family who spoke on condition of anonymity said the actress was shocked to learn her home had been targeted.

“It’s frightening any time something like this happens,” the friend said. “She’s grateful no one was hurt, but this is a terrible violation.” The friend added that Torres is cooperating fully with law enforcement.

The incident comes amid a wave of high-profile burglaries in the Los Angeles area, where several celebrities have reported break-ins in recent years. Police officials urge residents, especially those with high visibility, to review home security measures.

In a brief statement released through a representative, Torres offered thanks to the community. “I appreciate the swift response from neighbors and law enforcement,” the statement said. “I am focused on supporting the investigation and thankful that no one was home when this occurred.”

The LAPD asked anyone with information or possible surveillance footage related to the burglary to contact detectives. Investigators also noted that even small details, such as suspicious vehicles seen near the residence, could aid the case.
