Ginuwine is telling his truth behind his fallout with late singer Aaliyah.
During a recent interview on Drink Champs, the “So Anxious” singer, who was signed to Blackground Records and managed by Aaliyah’s uncle, Barry Hankerson, at the time, said that the fallout started after he decided to look for new management.
“We were all a family- Missy, Timbaland, her [Aaliyah], myself, Magoo, Playa, Tweet- all of us,” he said. “Her and I weren’t seeing eye-to-eye. I think it had to do a lot more with her loyalty to her uncle, Barry Hankerson- he was the record head, and the company was my manager- I just decided to leave because of whatever reason.”
Ginuwine continued, “Of course, her loyalty was to her family. So, that’s where that stemmed from. We ain’t have no beef or nothing like that- I ain’t beefing with no girl. It was one of those things where our time had separated.”
He went on to say that he wanted to make sure that they were good but never had the chance to because of Aaliyah’s untimely death in 2001. The 52-year-old then revealed that he had received a message of forgiveness from her through her close friend, Missy Elliott.
“Missy came, and she told me one time she had a dream, and Aaliyah said: ‘Don’t worry about it.’ She forgives me. And I cried,” he recalled.
