Kim Burrell has seemingly turned a new leaf and apologized to the LGBTQ+ community.

While accepting the Aretha Franklin Icon Award at the Stellar Awards, the gospel singer offered a sincere apology stating that she must embrace God’s people. “I want to apologize to the LGBTQ community. Let’s give them a great big round of applause. We want them to have strength and to sincerely know that we must all do the work to embrace all of God’s people and show forth His love to everyone.”

She continued, “I hope that this award and this moment can be the beginning of a bridge-building and listening to each other as we follow peace with all man and develop the character of God, which requires seeing God.”

Her speech gained mixed reactions on social media. One user on X (formerly known as Twitter), wrote “That tone… she could’ve kept it.” Another user wrote, “Whatever she originally said about gay people cost her some money… because I know her mean a** ain’t sorry for s***.”

Burrell’s apology comes after she faced backlash her a sermon that she gave in 2017 where she called homosexuality perverted. “Anybody in this room who’s dealing with homosexual spirit, beg God to free you. Play with it in 2017; you’ll die from it.”

She went to double down on her comments in a video she posted on social media back then. “To every person that is dealing with the homosexual spirit, I love you because God loves you, but God hates the sin in you and me.”

This isn’t the first time that Burrell has been in the spotlight because of controversial comments. She has said sermons about COVID-19, not wearing a mask, or getting vaccinated. What are your thoughts on this?
