Ja Rule said that becoming a grandfather has been a game-changer.
Speaking with PEOPLE, Ja Rule said he’s “very happy and excited” to welcome the new addition into the family.
“It’s a blessing. I’m very, very happy and excited,” Ja said. “My first child was my daughter, a girl, and my first grandchild is also going to be a girl.”
Ja even admitted that his grandchild helped him to be more sensitive.
“If I wasn’t soft enough, we are going to take a second dose of it, but I’m so happy,” he explained. “I can’t wait to see her.”
“It’s weird, you get older, and then you get back into little people mode,” he added. “You want a little person around again in the house. All my kids are grown, so it’s been a long time, so it’s going to be a lot of fun for me and the misses.”
Back in October, Ja Rule shared the news that his daughter, Brittney Atkins, was expecting her first baby with her husband, Tevin Aitken, on the Sherri show.
“I’m about to be a grandfather. That don’t even sound right,” Ja Rule joked.
Ja Rule also told host Sherri Shepherd that he found out about the news in a “very cute” way.
“It was very cute the way she did it. She put the sonogram in a box, and it was a card that said, ‘You’re now grandma and grandfather,’ and the sonogram was in the thing,” Ja recalled.
“And she said, ‘I got a gift for you guys.’ We thought it was a real gift,” he added. “So, we go into the room … and we open it up, and she got the camera on.”
“You can see my expression, see me in wifey’s expression. And it was an amazing moment.”
Ja shared the name he had picked out for himself.
“I think I’m going to steal my name from the Notorious B.I.G. Yeah. I love it when they call me Big Poppa,” he laughed.
Shepherd then gifted Ja Rule a custom-made cardigan with the words “Big Poppa” written on it.
“I love it,” he said excitedly. “Big Poppa is in the building.”
