Jamie Foxx is set to reveal the details of his harrowing medical emergency in his upcoming Netflix comedy special, What Had Happened Was…, premiering December 10. This marks the first time the multi-talented actor and comedian will address the incident in-depth, shedding light on a health scare that left fans deeply concerned earlier this year.
Jamie Foxx is Back
The trailer, released on December 5, showcases a triumphant Foxx returning to the stage, filmed in Atlanta in October. In the clip, a voiceover dramatically states, “Jamie Foxx literally died,” setting the tone for a reflective yet humorous hour. The camera then captures Foxx stepping onto the stage to a raucous ovation, where he opens with a heartfelt acknowledgment.
“I’m so glad to see y’all here. I’m so glad to be here,” Foxx declares, with a mix of gratitude and relief. He goes on to introduce the special’s theme, teasing fans about a journey filled with vulnerability and humor.
A Mysterious Health Crisis
Foxx’s health crisis began in April 2023 when he was hospitalized after experiencing a sudden medical complication. At the time, little information was disclosed, sparking widespread speculation. Foxx’s family later confirmed his condition had been critical but assured fans of his gradual recovery.
Reflecting on the ordeal in previous appearances, Foxx admitted he had been in a coma-like state for 20 days. “I woke up with no memory of what happened,” he shared. The experience has left a lasting impact, with Foxx expressing deep gratitude to those who supported and prayed for him.
Earlier this year, Foxx hinted he would reveal the full story when the time felt right. “I plan to do it in a funny way,” he said, nodding to his roots in stand-up comedy.
A Triumphant Return
What Had Happened Was… marks Foxx’s first comedy special since 2003’s Jamie Foxx Unleashed: Lost, Stolen and Leaked! The special is executive produced by Foxx, alongside a team including Marcus King and Hamish Hamilton.
