Jenny from the block is making her way back to music. Jennifer Lopez has announced her first album in eight years, This Is Me… Now. New and OG fans alike have been excited since.
The title of the new album is an ode to her third LP, This Is Me… Then, which celebrated its 20th anniversary in the same day of her announcement. The new project is said to chronicle ‘the emotional, spiritual and psychological journey’ of Lopez over the past two decades.
A press release about the new album detailed the journey fans will be going on while listening. It says it will map out “the incredible emotional journey she has been on. … This album is a philosophy, a reflection, a zeitgeist moment. It’s about hope, faith and true love never dying,” the release stated.
In an interview with Vogue, Jennifer Lopez said the album will be “the most honest work she has ever done,” and mentioned that she’d hoped for the album to create a world to go along with the music, similar to Pink Floyd’s “The Wall,” but with the focus being love.
Although this will be the singer’s first album in nine years, she hasn’t taken her foot off the gas completely when it comes to music. She has released singles such as Dinero featuring Cardi B and DJ Khaled as well as Us with Skrillex. She has also done some collaborations with names like Maluma and Lin-Manuel Miranda.
Additionally, she performed at the Super Bowl LIV halftime show alongside Shakira. She also performed a Motown tribute at the 2019 Grammys, sang at President Joe Biden’s inauguration and won the Video Vanguard Award at the 2018 MTV Video Music Awards.
This Is Me… Now does not yet have a release date but we can expect to see it in the new year!
