Jonathan Majors has expressed his deep disappointment over Marvel’s recent decision to recast the main villain for upcoming Avengers films. Speaking to TMZ, Majors revealed his feelings after learning that Robert Downey Jr. would be stepping in as Dr. Victor Von Doom in the new Avengers: Doomsday movie.
“Heartbroken, of course,” Majors admitted. “I love Kang, but Dr. Doom is wicked, though.” This reaction comes after Marvel decided to scrap Avengers: Kang Dynasty, a film where Majors was set to reprise his role as Kang The Conqueror. Kang was first introduced in the 2023 film, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.

Majors also addressed the differences in treatment he perceived between himself and other actors with legal troubles. “I think it’s fair that Mr. Downey is being greeted with patience and curiosity and love,” Majors said. “And that Mr. Miller has gotten the same treatment. I didn’t really get that.”
Majors was arrested in March 2023 on assault and harassment charges. His former girlfriend, Grace Jabbari, accused him of assaulting her. Despite being found guilty on two misdemeanor counts and sentenced to probation, Majors remains hopeful about returning to the MCU.
When asked if he would consider returning as Kang if given the opportunity, Majors enthusiastically replied, “Hell yeah! I love him. If that’s what the fans want, if that’s what Marvel wants, then let’s roll.”
Majors’ next role will be in the sci-fi revenge thriller, Merciless, set to release in 2024. However, there are currently no plans for him to return to the Marvel universe. This contrasts sharply with Robert Downey Jr.’s journey. Despite his past legal issues, Downey has been welcomed back to Marvel. He will portray Dr. Doom in Avengers: Doomsday, set for release in 2026.
Reflecting on his admiration for Downey, Majors said, “I’m just such a huge fan of him as an actor. I think what he did with Iron Man was such a gift to the culture at large. I would love to be across from him on screen.”
