Justin Timberlake is getting his DWI arrest reduced to a lesser charge through a plea deal.
The pop star received a traffic violation after being pulled over in Sag Harbor for erratic driving back in June.
Timberlake will appear at a hearing this Friday, marking the singer’s first return to the Hamptons enclave since his arrest. The singer pleaded not guilty to a charge of driving while intoxicated last month, through a virtual court appearance, where the judge suspended his license
At the time of his arrest in June, police said Timberlake, 43, was observed driving a 2025 BMW “in an intoxicated condition.”
He allegedly failed to stop at a stop sign and also failed to maintain in his lane of travel, according to a statement from Sag Harbor Police. He was described by an officer as “unable to divide attention” and performing poorly on “standardized field sobriety tests.”
In a criminal complaint, police added that Timberlake had bloodshot, glassy eyes. He also had slow speech, was unsteady on his feet and performed poorly on a field sobriety test, according to the complaint.
The “Can’t Stop The Feeling” singer told police he “had one martini and I followed my friends home,” according to court record.
At a hearing in late July, Timberlake’s high profile attorney Edward Burke Jr., disputed that the performer was intoxicated, arguing he should not have been arrested.
“The police made a number of very significant errors in this case,” Burke said at the time.
The plea deal will see the initial Driving While Intoxicated misdemeanor charge dropped. That charge carried a maximum of one year behind bars and a $2500 fine.
Even with the generous deal, Timberlake will not be able to drive in New York state for almost another year. Under the laws of the Empire State, the suspension of his license was automatic because Timberlake refused a breathalyze test when stopped by police in Sag Harbor earlier this summer.
The 10-time Grammy winner is currently on his Forget Tomorrow World Tour, which the source says is “his priority as well.” He is next scheduled to play on Sept. 28 in Newark, N.J. and will be on the road through June 2025. The tour is on track to land in the top 10 of the year-end tours list per Billboard.
