Justin Timberlake was “not intoxicated” during his June arrest for driving while intoxicated (DWI), his lawyer Edward Burke Jr. stated on Friday. Burke, after a hearing in Sag Harbor, New York, emphasized, “He was not intoxicated. I’ll say it again. Justin Timberlake was not intoxicated.” This statement came as Burke requested the case be dismissed due to errors made by the arresting officer.
Sag Harbor Village Justice Carl Irace reviewed Burke’s motion but decided Timberlake would be re-arraigned on August 2. This time, correct documents would be used. Timberlake, currently on his Forget Tomorrow World Tour, will appear virtually at the hearing.
Burke reiterated, “Justin respects law enforcement and the judicial process. However, he was not intoxicated and should not have been arrested for it. We are confident that this charge will be dismissed.” Timberlake’s arrest included one count of DWI and two citations: one for running a stop sign and another for failure to keep in lane.
Details of Justin Timberlake’s Arrest
On June 18, Timberlake was arrested in Sag Harbor after allegedly failing to stop at a stop sign and maintain his lane. Police claimed he was “operating his vehicle in an intoxicated condition” after leaving the American Hotel. Timberlake reportedly told officers he “had one martini and followed my friends home.”
Timberlake was held overnight and arraigned the next day before being released on his own recognizance. The arrest report noted that Timberlake “performed poorly on all standardized field sobriety tests.” Burke’s defense emphasized significant errors by the police in Timberlake’s arrest. “The police made a number of very significant errors in this case,” Burke stated.
Despite the arrest, Timberlake continued his tour, performing in Kraków, Poland, just hours after the hearing. Timberlake’s wife, Jessica Biel, remains supportive, with sources stating they “have faith in their legal team and continue to focus on work and their family.”
In a concert speech on June 21, Timberlake addressed the incident indirectly, saying, “It’s been a tough week. I know sometimes I’m hard to love but you keep on loving me, and I love you right back.”
