Kandi Burruss says a turning point last summer led her to decide to end her marriage to Todd Tucker.
The Grammy-winning songwriter and television personality shared that a “specific situation” forced her to reconsider the relationship. She said the moment clarified feelings she had been struggling with privately.
Burruss explained that she had tried to work through challenges for some time. Still, she said the incident made her realize she needed a different path.
“I just felt like, at that point, I was done,” Burruss said in a recent interview. “There was a specific situation that made me say, ‘OK, I can’t keep pushing this aside.’”
She added that the decision was not impulsive. Burruss said she weighed the impact on her family and business commitments carefully.
“I don’t make big decisions lightly,” she said. “I really thought about what was best for me and my peace.”
Private Struggle Comes into Focus
Burruss and Tucker married in 2014 after meeting while working on “The Real Housewives of Atlanta.” Their relationship often played out publicly on the show and in spinoff projects.
In recent months, fans speculated about tension between the couple. Burruss acknowledged that maintaining a marriage under public scrutiny can be difficult.
“People see pieces of your life, but they don’t see everything,” she said. “There are real conversations happening behind closed doors.”
She said the couple had faced disagreements before. However, last summer’s conflict felt different.
“It just changed how I looked at things,” Burruss said. “Sometimes you reach a point where you have to be honest with yourself.”
Burruss emphasized that she still respects Tucker. She described the separation as painful but necessary.
“We built a lot together,” she said. “That doesn’t disappear overnight.”
Looking Ahead
Burruss said she is focused on her children and ongoing projects. She continues to run several businesses and remains active in entertainment.
“I’m concentrating on moving forward in a healthy way,” she said. “My priority is making sure everyone is OK.”
She also expressed gratitude for supporters who have respected her privacy. Burruss said she hopes sharing part of her story might help others facing difficult decisions.
“Sometimes you have to choose yourself,” she said. “That’s not easy, but it can be the right thing.”
Representatives for Tucker have not publicly commented on her remarks.
Burruss did not share details about the “specific situation.” She said she prefers to keep certain matters private out of respect for her family.
“I’m not here to tear anyone down,” she said. “I just want to be truthful about my experience.”
As she navigates the next chapter, Burruss said she remains optimistic.
“I believe everything happens for a reason,” she said. “I’m taking it one step at a time.”
