Kendrick Lamar has made history again.
The acclaimed rap superstar is the first hip-hop artist to have three albums in the top 10 of the Billboard 200 chart.
According to Billboard, GNX returns to number one for a second nonconsecutive week after landing atop the chart in December. DAMN, which was released in 2017s occupies the 9th spot and 2012’s good kid, m.A.A.d city is holding steady at number 10.
In the almost 69-year history of the chart, this is the first time that a rap act has placed at least three albums concurrently in the top 10. The Billboard 200 began publishing in March 1956 on a regular, weekly basis.
Before Lamar achieved the feat, Taylor Swift chartered five albums on Dec. 9, 2023.
Prince, following his death, in April 2016 was the first artist to accomplish the feat. On the May 14, 2016, chart, he chartered five albums in the top 10. Prince died on April 21, 2016.
Additionally, “Not Like Us” has not lost steam. On Tuesday (February 18) after headlining the Super Bowl LIX, the scathing diss track topped the Hot 100 for its third non-consecutive week. The hit debuted at number one in May upon its initial release. In July, the song soared to number one following the “Pop Out” concert.
Not Like Us” is now the only non-holiday song to land “at the top of the chart three separate times with breaks of two or more months between each appearance.” Also, the break between its appearance in July and now — 29 chart weeks — is the third-longest ever, behind Chubby Checker’s “The Twist” and “All I Want For Christmas Is You” by Mariah Carey.
