Grammy-winning singer Lizzo has announced she is taking a gap year to focus on her well-being. In an Instagram post on August 25, she wrote, “I’m taking a gap year & protecting my peace.” The 36-year-old artist shared glimpses of her Bali getaway, including a playful caption: “Unfortunately I’ll be posting way too many bikini pics.” Fans saw her enjoying the tropical paradise, with photos of her in a black two-piece swimsuit and fitness clips of her jump-rope workouts on a balcony.
Lizzo’s Bali retreat appears to be a wellness reset, embracing nature, exercise, and relaxation. In one Instagram Story, she showcased her jump-rope routine, highlighting her commitment to staying active. “Bi**h I’m in Bali! What should I do???” she captioned another post, showing her vibrant spirit despite the challenges she faces.
Lizzo’s Mental Health Amid Public Scrutiny
Lizzo’s decision comes amid ongoing struggles with mental health and public scrutiny. Earlier this year, she expressed frustration over negative attention.
“I’m getting tired of putting up with being dragged by everyone in my life and on the Internet,” she explained. This sentiment followed a lawsuit filed by three former tour dancers alleging sexual misconduct and hostile work conditions, which Lizzo has denied as “sensationalized stories.”
In a May Instagram update, Lizzo shared, “I’m the happiest I’ve been in 10 months… My smile reaches my eyes again and that’s a win.” Her candidness about depression and recovery resonates with many fans. In March, she clarified her intention to quit negative energy. “When I say I quit, I mean, I quit giving any negative energy attention. What I’m not gonna quit is the joy of my life, which is making music, which is connecting with people,” she said.
Despite the challenges, Lizzo remains optimistic about her future in music. Her last album, Special (2022), debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 and featured the hit single “About Damn Time.” By taking a gap year, Lizzo aims to protect her peace and return refreshed. “I’m going to keep moving forward, I’m going to keep being me,” she affirmed.
