Pop star Lizzo has taken public aim at former President Donald Trump after her breakout hit “About Damn Time” was used during a military-style parade in Washington on June 14. The appearance of her upbeat anthem in that context didn’t sit well with the singer.

On TikTok, Lizzo posted a split-screen video that featured footage from the parade alongside a clip of her making a visibly disgusted face. She capped it with the caption, “cease and desist.”

While it’s unclear who executed the cover of her 2022 funk-pop single, reports indicate multiple performers—including the U.S. Army Band, country singers, and DJs—participated in the event at the Washington Monument. The use of Lizzo’s song, which she did not authorize, prompted immediate backlash.

No Permission, Big Reaction

“About Damn Time,” released April 14, 2022, topped the Billboard Hot 100 and became an anthem of empowerment. Its inclusion in a Trump-themed parade, however, was met with visible frustration. Lizzo’s TikTok reaction featured her miming a “delete” gesture over the parade clip—a clear signal of disapproval.

The Economic Times reports that Lizzo threatened legal action over the unauthorized use of her music. On social media, fans rallied to her side, with one Instagram user commenting, “Girl, cease and desist immediately,” and another adding, “YASSSS LIZZO.”

Lizzo has long been outspoken about her political views. In the lead-up to the 2024 election, she backed Kamala Harris and used her platform to call for systemic change . Now, she’s once again making her voice heard.
