Lyfe Jennings escalated a social media disagreement with singer Muni Long by releasing a diss track titled “Made For This,” following her critical comments about his classic song “Must Be Nice.”
Over the weekend, Muni Long sparked online debate when she took to Instagram Threads to call Jennings’ 2004 hit “crazy.” In her words, “Maturing is realizing Lyfe Jennings was really a hatin’ a* n***a… ‘Must Be Nice’ is crazy.”*
Jennings responded on social media with restraint and reflection. He posted a screenshot stating, “Maturing is realizing that looking [through] a filter of trauma will have you seeing grey skies where there are only blue. I’m still a fan, Miss Long. Be blessed.”
Lyfe Jennings Retaliates with Diss Track
On Tuesday, Jennings released “Made For This,” a song that creatively borrows from Muni Long’s own title “Made for Me,” flipping it into a personal response. In the track, he acknowledges Long’s artistry while calling her out for past shortcomings. Among the lyrics, he sings:
“The smell of your trauma / Is all over ya Prada / Your shoes Balenciaga / But your spirit’s givin Benihana.”
He adds a nod to his own longevity and asks: “I think I’m due a little respect / Been in this s**t for 20 years / Did you forget?” He continues with, “Twin, where have you been? Nobody knows you like I do. You strong, Black woman. Talented too. I can’t deny it. I would never try it.”
In the diss track, Jennings walks a line between confrontation and admiration. He delivers sharp lines but also affirms, “Talented too,” suggesting he still respects Long’s abilities even while confronting her comments. His appeal for recognition underscores a career spanning two decades.
Long later offered an apology publicly and privately. In a written message, she admitted, “Hey man, if I hurt your feelings, that’s valid. I can take that and apologize. Definitely meant it as a joke and no disrespect.” She added, “This is getting blown WAY out of proportion… I can’t tell you how to feel, at all. Again, no disrespect. I apologize. I’m done with it now I’ve addressed you directly and publicly.”
