The official “Rob Peace” trailer for Republic Pictures’ upcoming biographical drama, which hails from Oscar nominee Chiwetel Ejiofor, has been released. Actress Mary J Blige takes on the role as Jackie alongside Ejiofor as Skeet, Jay Will as Rob Peace, and Camila Cabello as Naya.

“Rob Peace” is written and directed by Ejiofor, based on Jeff Hobbs’s bestselling 2014 biography novel The Short and Tragic Life of Robert Peace. In the true story, a brilliant young man (Jay Will) is torn between his father’s shadowed past and his own promising future. Raised by his devoted mother  (Blige), Rob risks everything he has worked for to free his imprisoned father (Ejiofor).

“I’m thrilled to partner with Republic Pictures in bringing this extraordinary story to audiences,” Ejiofor said in a statement, per Entertainment Tonight. “Jeff Hobbs’ powerful book on Rob’s life fused together essential thoughts for me on race, housing, education, criminal justice, family and community. I can’t wait for audiences to experience Rob’s truly compelling life onscreen, at a time when the complex nature of social mobility remains as important as ever.”

Blige serves as an executive producer on the project along with Jamin O’Brien, Morgan Earnest, Luke Rodgers, Jeff Skoll, Robert Kessel, Bruce Evans, Faye Stapleton, Ali Jazayeri, and David Gendron. The producing team includes Antoine Fuqua, Rebecca Hobbs, Jeffrey Soros, Simon Horsman, Andrea Calderwood, Kat Samick, Alex Kurtzman and Jenny Lumet.
