Mary J. Blige is bringing her signature vibes to a theater near you.
The “Queen of Hip-Hop Soul” recently announced the upcoming release of Mary J. Blige: For My Fans, her first concert film, which is set to hit theaters next month. The film captures Blige performing songs on her latest tour
Blige expressed her excitement about the film in a statement.
Being able to share this moment globally with my fans, who can experience this together in a movie theater, is more special than I can put into words,” Blige told the Associated Press. “This tour was always for my fans, and being able to make this into a movie for them means the world.”
The film will showcase Blige performing her legendary hits such as “Be Without You,” “Family Affair,” and “No More Drama.” Also, Blige performs songs from her 15th studio album, “Gratitude,” which dropped in 2024 last year. The film includes behind-the-scenes footage and surprise guest appearances.
Kymberli Frueh, EVP of programming and content acquisitions at Trafalgar Releasing, which will distribute the film, lauded Blige for her iconic artistry.
“Mary J. Blige has always represented the heart and soul of New York. And her Madison Square Garden performance reflects that,” Frueh said. “We’re proud to share this historic hometown concert with audiences around the world through the magic of cinema.”
Blige emerged on the scene in 1992 with her groundbreaking debut album, What’s the 411?. Her impressive list of career accomplishments includes nine Grammy Awards, multiple multi-platinum albums like the influential My Life, Mary, No More Drama, and global sales of over 50 million records.
Blige further demonstrated her versatility and talent by earning two rare Academy Award nominations in the same year—for both Best Supporting Actress and Best Original Song for the film Mudbound.
