Master P is clarifying his statements on the impact of slavery.
“For the ones in the back that can’t hear,” he said in a response video. “Stop making them false narratives. I love my people.”
P also clarified that his main focus wasn’t on dwelling on history, but on taking action to build a better future.
“That’s what I mean about we can’t change the past but we can change the future by bridging the wealth gap,” said P. “That’s what Master P said. You can’t twist the truth.”
“I love my people, and when you talk about slavery, our ancestors have been through so much,” he continued. “We are not going to forget them and will keep bringing awareness, but we have to bridge the wealth gap.”
In an August 2026 Forbes interview, Master P sparked online debate by arguing that Black Americans should stop dwelling on slavery. The rap legend asserted that focusing on past trauma creates a negative mindset. He also advocated instead for financial progress through forward-looking entrepreneurship, personal integrity, and solid business practices.
Trying to get that negative mindset out [of] our culture ’cause they still going back to, ‘Oh man, slavery, they did us this,’ and I’m like, you still harping on that, man. I never harped on that because I can’t change the past, but I can change the future.”
