Maxwell’s Tiny Desk has arrived!

The three-time Grammy winner pulled up to Washington, D.C early this month to take part in the popular concert series. Maxwell, keeping his signature cool swag, wore a mesh beige top, gold chain and orange tinted sunglasses. He was joined by his six-piece band and two background singers, who also dressed in neutral tones of brown, khaki and beige.

Maxwell and his band kicked things off with his timeless hit, “Sumthin’ Sumthin’” from his 1996 debut album Urban Hang Suite. They transitioned into 2009’s “Bad Habits” from Blacksummers’ Night, the album which he won a Grammy for Best R&B Album.

In between Maxwell’s set, he admitted he was nervous about this performance despite being a veteran in the game.

“I have not slept all night” I’m telling you 100%, I’ve been up, so nervous about this.” He continued, “To me this is one of the most epic places to be. It’s where real music can’t lie. Thank you for making this nervousness become appreciation, comfort, and security right now.”

The rest of Maxwell’s set included fan favorites “Lifetime”, “Pretty Wings” and his cover of “Simply Beautiful.” The beginning guitar rift for the Al Green classic behooved him to stand up for his performance.

He wrapped things up with  “Ascension (Don’t Ever Wonder)”, the song that scored him his first Top 40 hit.
