Former Destiny’s Child member Michelle Williams has revealed what she considers the group’s most underrated track and she doesn’t shy away from why she believes it deserves more attention.

Speaking exclusively at the 27th Annual Angel Ball in New York City, Williams pointed to “Sexy Daddy,” from the group’s 2001 album Survivor, as the song she feels is overlooked. “Oh, ‘Sexy Daddy’ from the Survivor album,” she said with a laugh and a nod.

She explained that while the group is often praised for high-profile hits such as “Say My Name” and “Independent Women Part I,” she believed this track carried a distinctive energy that never got its full due. “It brought me back,” she said of reflecting on the song’s era.

Williams said the song’s sensual dance-floor vibe and bold production represented a side of the group that rarely receives fanfare. She added, “I just love how maternal she is — she just kicks into that nurturing mode…” referring to designer and mentor Tina Knowles who styled the group at the Angel Ball.

Williams noted that as the group matured, the track marked a moment of transition in sound and image. She said the group “had fun with it,” yet audiences gravitated toward more polished hits. The former singer-turned broadway star observed that many fans may have skipped the deeper cuts in favour of chart-toppers.

She also referenced how Knowles, who crafted many of the group’s iconic stage looks, invited Williams to her event as a stylist. “Miss Tina! At the same time…I was like it made me feel like it was when we first met 25 years ago,” Williams said. That gesture sparked Nostalgia and gave Williams space to reflect on the artistry of the group beyond their biggest singles.

Williams emphasized that “Sexy Daddy” held up not just as an album track but as a lived-in performance piece that captured the group’s confidence. She encouraged listeners to revisit the song with an open mind: “Give that a chance — you’ll hear something fresh,” she said.

Her revelation invites fans and critics alike to dig beyond the hits list. It also underscores Williams’ continuing relationship with her former bandmates and collaborators. The Angel Ball remarks came as she honoured Tina Knowles for her philanthropic and creative work.
