Oscar-winning actress and comedian Mo’Nique reignited a long-standing dispute with filmmaker Tyler Perry. In a recent appearance on the Outlaws with TS Madison podcast, she accused Perry of harboring a “God complex” and blamed him for costing her more than a decade of career opportunities.

“That lie cost me 12 years of my career,” Mo’Nique said. She described allegations she believes Perry spread, which she claims led to her being ignored in Hollywood. She added, “We’re too afraid. We’re too scared. We’re too fearful that you’re gonna take something from me,” directly referencing the power she attributes to Perry.

She continued, “As long as I can help it, I’m saying: ‘Tyler Perry you will not do this to another.’” She said that although Perry “has a God complex,” she intends to hold him accountable. “Either you’ll fix it in life or you’ll be dealt with in death… but I’m not going anywhere until you take accountability and fix it,” she declared.

Mo’Nique Demands for Apology and Accountability

Mo’Nique made clear she wants more than acknowledgement. “You publicly shamed me, so now you have to publicly fix it,” she demanded, calling for a public apology. “Tyler Perry, you cost my family millions, and millions, and millions of dollars,” she said, highlighting the personal and financial stakes of the dispute.

Her criticism also extended to Oprah Winfrey. “Oprah. I’m not going anywhere until y’all take accountability and fix it,” she said. “Y’all messed with my livelihood, which messes with my family.”

This conflict stretches back to 2009 when Mo’Nique won an Academy Award for her role in Precious. She declined to participate in the film’s promotional tour, which she says led to professional backlash. She asserts that Perry and Winfrey retaliated by obstructing her career.

In a past interview with Vulture, Mo’Nique said that Perry never fulfilled a private promise he made: to publicly address how she had been treated. “Here’s the thing: he’s never done it,” she said. “We had given Tyler Perry a year to keep his word. Brother, you said you were going to come out and say something. Well, you never came out and said anything.”
