Naomi Osaka, the tennis superstar and four-time Grand Slam champion, announced Monday that she and rapper Cordae have ended their relationship. Osaka shared the news through a heartfelt post on social media, emphasizing that the split was amicable.
“Hi everyone, just wanted to say that Cordae and I are no longer in a relationship,” Osaka wrote. “No bad blood at all, he’s a great person and an awesome dad.”
Naomi Osaka and Cordae’s Relationship Timeline
Osaka and Cordae began dating in 2019, with their relationship often in the public eye. Cordae was a consistent supporter at Osaka’s tennis matches, celebrating alongside her team during victories like the 2020 US Open. Likewise, Osaka attended his concerts, showing equal admiration for his artistry.
The couple welcomed their daughter, Shai, in the summer of 2023 after announcing the pregnancy earlier that year. Reflecting on their time together, Osaka wrote, “Honestly really glad our paths crossed because my daughter is my biggest blessing and I was able to grow a lot from our experiences together.”
Cordae, known for his critically acclaimed albums The Lost Boy and From A Bird’s Eye View, was frequently praised by Osaka for his creativity and thoughtful approach to his craft. In a 2022 interview, Osaka noted, “He actually writes his lyrics. He takes the time to experience the things he does. It’s a really fascinating process.”
Osaka’s personal announcement comes during a period of professional and physical challenges. After returning to tennis in January 2024 following maternity leave, she worked to reclaim her position among the sport’s elite. However, a back and abdominal injury sidelined her during much of the 2024 season.
Most recently, Osaka reached the final of the ASB Classic in New Zealand but was forced to retire due to injury. Despite these setbacks, she re-entered the Top 50 of the WTA rankings and remains committed to her return, though her Australian Open participation remains uncertain.
