As InTouch reports, Nene Leakes is facing financial trouble as her bank account is set to be garnished due to unpaid rent related to her former boutique.

A lawsuit was filed against the former Real Housewives cast member by MPG-Sugarloaf back in 2022. The lawsuit stems from a commercial property lease that MPG-Sugarloaf gave to Leakes in 2017 for her “Swagg Boutique” business.

The boutique closed for a period of time during the pandemic. It reopened for a few months before ultimately shutting down for good in 2022.

The landlord said the reality star failed to pay $22,000 in rent charges when she vacated.

According to court documents obtained by In Touch, a Georgia judge has approved the request from MPG-Sugarloaf to seize funds from NeNe’s account at Truist Bank.

The lawsuit demands the entire unpaid balance plus interest.

Initial Lawsuit

After the first lawsuit was filed in 2022, NeNe expressed on social media that she wasn’t responsible for the debt, stating that her late husband, Gregg Leakes, had signed the lease. “Gregg signed the lease, not me! He ain’t here,” she claimed. Gregg passed away on September 1, 2021, at the age of 66. Despite being served legal papers outside her $1 million home in Atlanta, NeNe never formally responded in court.

Default Judgement

In November 2023, a default judgment was entered against NeNe in the amount of $25,631.

Following the entry of the judgment, the landlord fired off a series of summons to financial institutions where they believed NeNe may hold money. The landlord instructed them to freeze any funds in NeNe’s account, including wages and other properties, for the next five days.

Personal issues

In addition to her legal issues, NeNe has been dealing with family challenges. Her oldest son, Bryson Bryant, was arrested for drug possession on July 3, 2023. Police discovered a bag containing a white substance in his vehicle, which tested positive for fentanyl. Bryson, 34, accepted a plea deal that led to the dismissal of a more serious charge in exchange for pleading guilty to a misdemeanor. He received 12 months of probation and was ordered to pay a $500 fine.

The RHOA alum spoke out about her son’s issues following his arrest.

“He needs a lot of counseling. Like many families out there, I have family members that are struggling with drugs and certain addictions. He has an addiction,” she said. “He’s been in rehab for a couple of times and he still has come back out and relapsed.”

“I’ve spent so much money on trying to get Bryson where he needs to be,” she added.
