R&B singer Nivea has shared an emotional health update just months after revealing her leukemia diagnosis.
The 44-year-old singer announced that her cancer is now in remission during an appearance on “The Tamron Hall Show” on Wednesday, Oct. 7. Nivea, whose full name is Nivea B. Hamilton, became visibly emotional as host Tamron Hall shared the encouraging news with viewers.
“I’m very grateful,” the singer said through tears.
The announcement comes after Nivea revealed in July that she had been diagnosed with chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) earlier this year. The Grammy-nominated artist admitted she was surprised by how quickly her condition had improved. Although doctors explained the medication’s success rate, she understood that every patient’s experience could be different.
“It’s been an adjustment, the symptoms. I’m tired a lot. I have other issues, bleeding. I found out I have fibroids. It’s a long little list, but I’m still on the better side than most. I’m not complaining,” she explained.
Despite the challenges, Nivea expressed gratitude for her progress and the medical professionals overseeing her treatment.
Nivea Opens Up About Her Cancer Treatment
Nivea first publicly discussed her diagnosis during a July appearance on the interview series “Cadillac Chronicles.” During the conversation, she explained that doctors had diagnosed her with leukemia earlier in 2026.
The “Don’t Mess With My Man” singer later confirmed her specific diagnosis in a statement shared with ABC News. Doctors diagnosed her with CML after conducting two bone marrow biopsy procedures.
According to the American Cancer Society, CML develops in blood-forming cells within the bone marrow. The disease typically progresses more slowly than certain other forms of leukemia.
During her appearance on Hall’s show, Nivea was joined by her oncologist, Dr. Colin Vale. The singer discussed participating in a clinical trial involving an FDA-approved targeted medication. She explained that her treatment consists of two pills taken daily.
Although she initially had concerns about the medication, she eventually found reassurance through her faith and medical team. Nivea also described a meaningful experience involving a hospital nurse whose name was spelled exactly like her late mother’s.
She interpreted the coincidence as encouragement to trust her doctor and continue treatment. Her medical team has continued monitoring her condition through regular blood tests.
While the medication has produced encouraging results, Nivea acknowledged that fatigue and other health challenges remain part of her experience.
Singer Looks Ahead to New Music and Family Life
Nivea’s health journey has also influenced her outlook on life, motherhood and her career. The mother of four previously explained that her diagnosis encouraged her to appreciate everyday experiences and pursue personal goals.
During her July interview, she revealed that she had returned to making music and was studying audio engineering.
The singer, known for early 2000s hits including “Laundromat” and “Complicated,” has continued exploring creative opportunities while undergoing treatment.
Her latest television appearance also included a preview of her upcoming song, “Ferris Wheel.” Nivea’s remission marks an encouraging development, although remission does not necessarily mean cancer has been cured.
According to the National Cancer Institute, remission occurs when cancer symptoms and signs decrease or disappear. Continued medical monitoring can remain necessary.
In her earlier statement to ABC News, she expressed appreciation for the encouragement she received following her diagnosis.
“A tremendous thank you to everyone for the love & prayers,” she said.
