The new edition comes with sought-after B-sides and remixes
Janet Jackson will reissue one of her classic albums, The Velvet Rope, this Friday, October 7th. The new edition comes with remixes, including two rarities, “Accept Me”and “God’s Stepchild”. It will also feature remastered versions of her iconic music videos for “Go Deep,” “I Get Lonely,” “You,” “Got ‘Til It’s Gone,” and “Together Again [Deeper Remix].
The new mixes include Teddy Riley’s TNT Remix of “I Get Lonely” featuring BLACKstreet, the J. Dilla (Ummah Jay Dee) remix of “Got ‘Til It’s Gone”, and Timbaland/Missy “Misdemeanor” Elliott’s remix of “Go Deep.” Also included are club mixes of various tracks by David Morales & Frankie Knuckles, Masters at Work, Tony Moran, Jason Nevins and Tony Humphries.
A product of iconic producers, Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, The Velvet Rope was destined to be a cultural touchstone. Janet’s vulnerable and poignant writing confronted themes of female sexuality through a black woman’s lens as well as domestic violence and mental health. Each track made the listener feel a different emotion. “What About” touches on emotional and physical abuse in relationships. “You” encourages the listener to hold themselves accountable. The album’s lead single, “Got ‘Til It’s Gone” focuses on appreciation and not taking anything for granted.
This new edition of The Velvet Rope serves as a nostalgic treat Janet Jackson fans can’t wait to induldge in.
This summer Ms.Jackson shut down the EssenceFest stage. She recaptured choreography from her earlier days while performing her classic hits “What Have You Done For Me Lately”, “Control” and “Nasty”.
