Oprah Winfrey gets emotional as her BFF, Gayle King, launches into space with an all-female crew.
Oprah watched from the Blue Origin Launch Site One in West Texas as blasted off took place at 9:30 a.m. ET.
The rocket safely returned to space 10 minutes later. King was joined by singer Katy Perry, journalist and philanthropist Lauren Sánchez, film producer Kerianne Flynn, former NASA rocket scientist Aisha Bowe, and civil rights activist Amanda Nguyen.
The crew journeyed to the Kármán line, the boundary between Earth’s atmosphere and outer space, located 62 miles above the planet. They spent approximately 11 minutes in space. This mission marks the first all-woman spaceflight since Valentina Tereshkova’s solo mission for the Soviet Union in 1963.
