Pastor Mike McClure Jr., 11-time Stellar Award winner, is not here for Grammy Award-winning gospel artist, Tye Tribbett’s comments describing the institution of the church.
On March 6, Tribbet visited The Breakfast Club radio show and passionately spoke about how he feels like “the institution of the Church is whack.” He went on to explain that he is frustrated by how the Church has gotten things backward..
“The Church should be about the people, but the Church makes the people about the Church,” Tribbett said. “They’re not serving and loving the people.”
Pastor McClure took to social media to call Tribbett out by name and inform him that his comments irresponsible
“At a certain point, you have to stop and speak truth to power. This morning, I heard an interview from Ty Tribbett on The Breakfast Club, and I get what he was trying to say but he made a statement that was very irresponsible. On the wrong platform, He said the church is wack,” he shared in a social video.
The founding pastor of Rock City Church continued, “How can you go on a national platform and totally throw under the bus the very institution that made you who you are?”
“You, sir, had an opportunity to shine God’s light, to push people back into the place of healing. But instead, you wanted to feel cool. You could have been a light. You could have told people ‘Man, falling in love with god was the best thing I’ve ever done.’”
Pastor Mike, Jr. and Tye Tribbett were the leading nominees for the 2023 Stellar Gospel Music Awards, with 10 and nine nods, respectively.
