A new album featuring previously unreleased music from Prince could arrive as early as this summer, according to recent reports tied to the late artist’s estate.
The project, which has not yet been formally announced with a title or release date, is expected to include entirely new material drawn from Prince’s extensive archive. The artist, who died in 2016, was widely known for recording far more music than he released during his lifetime.
L. Londell McMillan, an attorney closely associated with managing Prince’s estate, confirmed the plans in a recent interview.
“We’re going to have new songs this summer,” McMillan said. “This is going to be new songs.”
He added that the album could contain more than eight tracks, with the possibility of a larger, multi-disc release.
A Vault Still Full of Music
Prince’s legendary “vault” at Paisley Park has long fueled speculation among fans and music historians. The archive is believed to hold hundreds of unreleased songs, along with fully produced albums that never reached the public.
In recent years, the estate has taken a more structured approach to releasing this material. A previously unheard track titled “With This Tear” was issued in April, marking the 10th anniversary of the artist’s death.
That release is widely seen as the beginning of a broader rollout strategy. Industry observers say the upcoming album could represent the most significant collection of new Prince material in years.
“This is another chapter in opening the vault,” one report noted, pointing to the continued demand for unheard recordings.
Balancing Legacy and Demand
The handling of Prince’s posthumous catalog has often been cautious. Estate representatives have emphasized preserving the artist’s creative intent while also responding to fan interest.
Prince’s reputation for perfectionism complicates those decisions. He frequently recorded multiple versions of songs and shelved entire projects at the last minute.
Despite those challenges, interest in new material remains high. His influence continues across genres, and previously released archival projects have drawn strong attention.
Music analysts say the reported summer release could attract both longtime fans and younger listeners discovering Prince’s work for the first time.
No official track list or collaborators have been confirmed. The estate has also not announced whether the album will receive a physical release, digital rollout, or both.
Still, the prospect of new music from one of pop’s most prolific artists has already generated anticipation.
If confirmed, the album would underscore a reality long understood by fans: even a decade after his death, Prince’s creative output continues to unfold.
