Rashida Jones remembers her father, Quincy Jones, in a precious way.
The actress paid tribute to her late father by sharing a heartfelt memory of them during one of his late night composing sessions. “When I was little, I would wake up in the middle of the night to search for him,” she wrote on Instagram. “Undoubtedly, he would be somewhere in the house, composing (old school, with a pen and sheet music.)”
She continued, “He would never send me back to bed. He would smile and bring me into his arms while he continued to work… there was no safer place in the world for me.” Rashida went on to describe her father was a “giant. An icon. A culture shifter. A genius.”
“All accurate descriptions of my father, but his music and ALL of his work was a channel for his love. He WAS love. He made everyone he ever met feel loved and seen. That’s his legacy.” She concluded with, “I’ll miss his hugs and kisses and unconditional devotion and advice. Daddy, it is an honor to be your daughter. Your love lives forever.”
We reported that Quincy Jones passed away at 91-years-old in his Bel Air home surrounded by his family. He had a career that spanned over seven decades and he has won a total of 28 Grammys, an Emmy and a Tony. He became the first African American to get nominated for Best Original Song in 1968 at the Academy Awards. In 1995, he would receive an honorary Oscar.
In statement, his family said, “We take comfort and immense pride in knowing that the love and joy, that were the essence of his being, was shared with the world through all that he created. Through his music and his boundless love, Quincy Jones’ heart will beat for eternity.”
