Raven-Symoné shared that at 15, she was told that she must go from D to a B, but it wasn’t for a school grade.
Speaking on her Tea Time with Raven & Miranda podcast, she told her wife Miranda Maday: “I had my first breast reduction at 15. It was traumatic. I was a triple D all the way down to a B.”
The 38-year-old actress – who started out as a child on The Cosby Show revealed that she went under the knife when she was just 15 years old because she had been told that is what she needed to do to find success.
“Someone said I needed to do it in order to get a show.”
Symoné also shared that she opted to get liposuction at the same time in an effort to quiet external chatter about her size. “I was like, ‘Yeah, if I get lipo, will people stop calling me fat?’ And so, I got a twofer,’ ” she said.
Symoné has previously shared the pressure she experienced being in front of the camera, trying to fit into a specific beauty standard. When she turned 18 in 2004, she decided to undergo two breast reductions and liposuction at the encouragement of her father.
“There was paperwork involved. My dad suggested strongly that I should get my breasts reduced,” she revealed on episode 5 The Best Podcast Ever With Raven and Miranda.
But the That’s So Raven star has now learned to “embrace” her body in a way she couldn’t when she was younger. “There’s this beautiful embracing of the body now that I didn’t get as a young girl.”
