Ryan Coogler’s Sinners was recognized at the 83rd Golden Globes on Sunday (Jan.11).
The film won the Cinematic and Box Office Achievement award.
Coogler thanked the audience for watching the film in theaters during the group’s acceptance speech. He was joined on stage by producers Zinzi Coogler (his wife) and Sev Ohanian. Also, cast members Michael B. Jordan, Hailee Steinfeld, and Jack O’Connell to the stage to celebrate the victory.
“I just want to thank the audience for showing up. It means the world. This movie was made by hundreds of people,” Coogler shared. “We don’t always, when we work in the film business, wear tuxedos and get glammed out. It’s usually a grind. We were wearing performance fishing gear, and we were in the swamps.”
“It was an honor on this movie to know that it was getting a theatrical release. We would remind people every day, in the dog days of summer in New Orleans — we would say, ‘Hey, big movie. People are going to see this — big theater.’ We didn’t know that they [the audience] would show up, and we thank them that they did.”
A box office success, Sinners’ opening weekend drew $48 million domestically, claiming the top spot from A Minecraft Movie. The film made $280 million in North America and $88.3 million internationally, for a worldwide total of roughly $368.3 million. It also became the highest-grossing R-rated horror film of 2025.
At the Golden Globes, Sinners received seven nominations. Ludwig Göransson won a Golden Globe for the Best Original Score category.
Hosted by comedian Nikki Glaser for the second consecutive year, the ceremony was held at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills.
Last week at the SAG Awards, the film won several awards, including Best Original Screenplay.
