The suspect in the Minneapolis school shooting allegedly left behind a manifesto on YouTube.
According to reports, the shooter, Robin Westman’s manifesto was in Russian but the Minneapolis television station KARE 11 was able to translate it. In the manifesto, he allegedly referenced “suicide, school shootings and shooters, and the Annunciation Church.”
As of now, no motive has been determined. The television station revealed that he used to go by the name Robert Westman but changed it to Robin Westman in 2020 in a Dakota County court.
Authorities said that Westman, 23, fired his gun through a window as Catholic Mass was going on at the Annunciation Catholic Church and School where he shot and killed two children ages 8 and 10. He also injured 17 others. Westman eventually died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The manifesto has been taken down from YouTube as reported by KTSP. “The disturbing videos showed Westman’s arsenal of guns, ammunition and what appears to be a handwritten four-page manifesto addressed to Westman’s family and friends,” the news station said.
They also reported that Westman wrote in his manifesto, “I don’t expect forgiveness … I do apologize for the effects my actions will have on your lives.” It continued, “I was corrupted by this world and have learned to hate what life is. I have wanted this for so long. I am not well. I am not right. I am a sad person, haunted by these thoughts that do not go away. I know this is wrong, but I can’t seem to stop myself.”
Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families.
