R&B singer Shanice Wilson, best known for her hit song “I Love Your Smile,” recently shared her personal battle with breast cancer. The 51-year-old singer revealed on social media that she underwent a double mastectomy three months ago after being diagnosed with a stage one tumor. In a series of heartfelt videos, Shanice opened up about her journey and encouraged fans to prioritize their health.
Shanice Wilson Says It’s the Hardest Thing She’s Ever Faced
In her first video, Shanice shared that doctors discovered a one-centimeter tumor in her breast. She explained that the diagnosis was ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS), an early form of breast cancer where malignant cells remain in the milk ducts. “This is the hardest thing I’ve ever had to face in my life,” she admitted, “but I know God is with me.”
After further testing, doctors confirmed the tumor was stage one. Shanice decided to remove both breasts to prevent the possibility of future cancer. “Since you’re going to remove one, you might as well remove both,” she said. “I don’t want anything popping up later.”
Throughout the process, Shanice credited her strength to her faith, doctors, and family. In a social media post, she expressed gratitude to her medical team, including herbalists, for their support. She also gave special thanks to her husband, actor Flex Alexander, for standing by her side: “You helped me every day with my drains and cooked all my meals. I love you. I am healed and restored in Jesus’ name.”
Flex, proud of his wife’s resilience, responded, “You handled it like a warrior babe!! I’m glad now you’re telling your story!! You are my hero.”
Fans and fellow celebrities flooded her page with messages of support. Tina Knowles, mother of Beyoncé, commented, “You are the bravest most unselfish person for sharing your testimony!”
Shanice continues to heal and work on new music, reminding women everywhere to get regular checkups.
