A member of Sean “Diddy” Combs’ former defense team has reportedly taken on another high-profile case.
Attorney Teny Geragos is representing a Cornell University fraternity member accused in a sexual assault lawsuit. Geragos is a partner at Agnifilo Intrater, according to Complex.
The firm previously helped defend Combs during his closely watched federal criminal trial in 2025. Geragos worked alongside lead attorney Marc Agnifilo during the proceedings.
Combs was acquitted of racketeering conspiracy and sex trafficking charges. However, jurors convicted him on two prostitution-related counts.
Geragos is now representing one of seven men accused in a lawsuit involving Cornell’s Chi Phi fraternity. The identity of her client has not been publicly disclosed in reports about her involvement.
The lawsuit was filed by a former Cornell student identified as Jane Doe. She alleges seven fraternity members sexually assaulted her in October 2024.
Cornell allegations spark renewed investigation
According to the lawsuit, Doe was 20 years old when she visited the Chi Phi fraternity house.
She alleges fraternity members gave her alcohol and drugs before multiple men sexually assaulted her. The lawsuit also points to messages allegedly exchanged through a fraternity Snapchat group chat.
The men accused in the case have denied wrongdoing. Some acknowledged sexual contact but maintained the encounters were consensual, according to reports.
The allegations were initially investigated in 2024. However, prosecutors did not pursue criminal charges at the time.
Tompkins County District Attorney Matthew Van Houten later reopened the investigation following renewed attention surrounding Doe’s civil lawsuit.
The case soon reached the state level.
New York Gov. Kathy Hochul appointed Attorney General Letitia James as special prosecutor. Hochul said she had lost confidence in the local district attorney’s handling of the investigation.
James confirmed her office has taken control of the criminal investigation.
“A comprehensive investigation of this nature takes time. But my office is committed to seeing it through. This is now an active criminal investigation led by the Office of the Attorney General,” James said.
No individual involved in the matter has been criminally charged as of early October.
Geragos joins the defense
Geragos’ involvement adds another prominent attorney to a case already drawing national attention.
TMZ first reported that Agnifilo Intrater had joined the defense of one of the accused men. Geragos is reportedly handling the student’s representation.
Her biography highlights experience defending clients facing allegations of sexual misconduct. Her past clients have included Combs and disgraced film producer Harvey Weinstein.
The firm is expected to scrutinize Doe’s earlier statements about what happened that night. Reports indicate the defense will focus partly on initial statements describing sexual activity as consensual.
Doe’s attorney has challenged how authorities characterized those earlier statements.
Her lawyer, Thomas Giuffra, has maintained her initial account was not materially different from allegations in the lawsuit. He has also criticized how authorities handled the original investigation.
Cornell has said its internal investigation resulted in several disciplinary actions. Those included expulsions and suspensions. The university has also said Chi Phi remains barred from campus.
The university is also conducting an independent review of its handling of the allegations.
Meanwhile, James’ office is continuing the criminal investigation. The civil lawsuit against Cornell, the fraternity members and other defendants also remains pending.
