Rapper Snoop Dogg is reversing course by offering public support for same-sex parenting, just weeks after drawing criticism for comments on LGBTQ+ representation in children’s films. His renewed stance came as part of a broader effort to promote inclusion and acceptance through music and conversation.

Snoop joined forces with the nonprofit GLAAD to release a children’s song titled “Love Is Love” for the annual Spirit Day, which spotlights anti-bullying efforts among LGBTQ+ youth. In a video conversation with queer artist Jeremy Beloate, Snoop said, “It’s a beautiful thing that kids can have parents of all walks… and be shown love, and be taught what love is.”

He added, “Whether it’s two fathers, two mothers, whatever it is, love is the key.” He also thanked parents in same-sex relationships, declaring, “I wanna give a shoutout to all of the parents out there for doing such a great job with these kids.”

Snoop said his music gives him “the opportunity to teach these kids,” reinforcing his intent to shape messaging to young audiences.

Addressing Past Backlash

Earlier this year, Snoop came under fire for remarks aired on his It’s Giving podcast about Lightyear, the Pixar film that briefly shows a lesbian couple raising a child. He had recounted taking his grandson to see the film and being unprepared to answer his questions about same-sex parenting. “They’re putting it everywhere,” he said, and admitted he was “scared to go to the movies” afterward.

In that moment, Snoop recalled telling his grandson, “Hey man, watch the movie,” rather than engaging in a deeper discussion. He said the scene “threw me for a loop” and admitted, “I don’t have the answer.”

Critics interpreted those remarks as homophobic or out of touch, and social media backlash followed.

But with his new release and statements, Snoop appears to be acknowledging a shift. He emphasized that children ask questions naturally, and said his goal is to help solve confusion, not stoke controversy.

By aligning with GLAAD’s Spirit Day and using his platform to celebrate diverse family structures, Snoop is taking a more inclusive direction. Whether this shift will be embraced by critics and fans remains uncertain. But his public praise for same-sex parenting marks a significant gesture — one that contrasts sharply with his earlier resistance.

“Love is love,” Snoop said for families of all kinds, “that’s the key.”
