Storm Reid, known for her role as Gia Bennett in HBO’s Euphoria, has confirmed she will not be returning for its third season. Speaking at the Governors Awards red carpet, the actor expressed both gratitude and excitement.
“I’m very excited for Season 3,” Reid told Rotten Tomatoes. “Unfortunately, Gia’s not returning to the third season, but I am so, so indebted to the cast and the crew of that show, to HBO. Euphoria’s a really special thing, and I’m so glad that that’s a part of my legacy and that I was a part of such a cultural phenomenon. I can’t wait to see what Season 3 has in store.”
Storm Reid Character’s Exit
Reid portrayed Gia, Rue Bennett’s (Zendaya) younger sister, in the first two seasons of Euphoria. Her character was a grounding presence amid the series’ portrayal of addiction, loss, and teenage turmoil. HBO has not commented on her departure.
Production for Season 3 is set to begin in January. Fans are eager to see what the eight-episode season holds as it continues to follow the lives of East Highland’s high schoolers. Casey Bloys, head of HBO content, recently reassured reporters about the show’s progress, saying, “We’re happy. We’re moving ahead. All of the actors are in the show.”
However, delays and uncertainties previously surrounded the production. In March, Reid told Variety, “We would all hope to be able to go back tomorrow, but there are logistics that have to be figured out. So even though I’m a little disappointed, I’m not surprised.”
Past Departures and Future Challenges
Reid is not the first actor to depart the series. Barbie Ferreira, who played Kat Hernandez, exited earlier in 2023, citing creative differences and a lack of story opportunities for her character.
While Euphoria fans may miss Gia, Reid’s career continues to thrive. Known for her work in The Last of Us, A Wrinkle in Time, and Missing, she remains a prominent young star.
As for Euphoria, its remaining cast—including Zendaya, Sydney Sweeney, and Jacob Elordi—will navigate a new chapter without one of its foundational characters.
