The Recording Academy & CBS Collaborate To Produce Massive ‘Hip Hop 50’ Concert

Presented by the Recording Academy, Jesse Collins Entertainment, and CBS, “A Grammy Salute to 50 Years of Hip-Hop” live concert special will air on Sunday, December 10, on CBS and on demand on Paramount+.

The two-hour program will showcase and celebrate the genre’s profound history and monumental cultural impact around the world. Among the first announced performers are Black Thought, Bun B, Common, De La Soul, Jermaine Dupri, J.J. Fad, Talib Kweli, The Lady Of Rage, LL Cool J, MC Sha-Rock, Monie Love, The Pharcyde, Queen LatifahQuestlove, Rakim, Remy Ma, Uncle Luke and Yo-Yo, with many more promised to be added.

Questlove and LL Cool J will executive produce the special, which will record on November 8 at the YouTube Theater in Inglewood, CA. 

Harvey Mason Jr., CEO of the Recording Academy, spoke on the Grammys’ focused on the importance of the special. “For five decades, Hip-Hop has not only been a defining force in music, but a major influence on our culture,” he said. “Its contributions to art, fashion, sports, politics, and society cannot be overstated. I’m so proud that we are honoring it in such a spectacular way on the Grammy stage. It is just the beginning of our year-long celebration of this essential genre of music.”

A Grammy Salute to 50 Years of Hip-Hop will be available to stream live or on demand via Paramount+ on Dec 10 from 8:30-10:30 p.m. ET
